Wildcard DNS is a configuration in the Domain Name System (DNS) that allows a single DNS record to match requests for any subdomain not specifically defined. This means that any subdomain, even if it doesn't exist, will resolve to a specified IP address. While this can simplify web hosting and management, cybercriminals can exploit wildcard DNS to rapidly generate countless unique web addresses, making it harder for defenders to block or track malicious sites.
