Volumetric imaging is a technique for capturing data from multiple depths and combining it into a three-dimensional view. Instead of recording only a single flat slice, the system samples a volume so structure can be examined in depth. This is useful when a target is layered, partially hidden, or changes too quickly for simple slice-by-slice inspection.
In cyber security, volumetric imaging matters in physical analysis and hardware defense. Security teams can use 3D imaging to inspect chips, boards, seals, or other devices for tampering, counterfeit parts, hidden modifications, or manufacturing defects without immediately destroying the sample. Attackers may try to conceal implants or changes inside multilayer hardware, and volumetric imaging helps reveal those internal structures. The same idea also supports biometric and forensic review, where depth information can improve detection of spoofing or physical manipulation.
