Visible output is the part of a system that a person can directly see on a display, such as text, icons, alerts, status lights, or a login prompt. It is the system’s front-facing presentation layer: the information that turns internal state into something readable for a user.
In cyber security, visible output matters because attackers often target what users see. Phishing kits mimic legitimate screens, malware can hide warnings or show false status messages, and kiosk or industrial systems may be abused to display misleading instructions. Defenders also rely on visible output for safety cues, authentication prompts, and operator awareness. When validating a device or interface, checking visible output helps confirm that the right command reached the right component and that no spoofed or suppressed screen content is interfering with trust.
