Video pipeline

the chain of steps that moves camera data to the screen.

A video pipeline is the chain of components that turns camera input into an image on the screen. It usually includes capture from the sensor, encoding or decoding, buffering, transport, frame processing, and display. Each stage adds time, and each stage can also drop, reorder, or delay frames if the device is overloaded or the software is poorly tuned.

In cyber security, the video pipeline matters because freshness and integrity are part of trust. A delayed or disrupted feed can mislead operators, weaken monitoring, or hide activity behind stale frames. Defenders look for signs such as excessive latency, frame loss, abnormal CPU use, and unsafe permissions on camera services. Attackers may try to exhaust resources, interfere with processing, or feed manipulated video into the pipeline, so validating timing, source, and output is a practical control.
