Teacher competencies

the skills educators need to use tools effectively in practice.

Teacher competencies are the practical skills educators need to use digital tools effectively in real classroom work. In security-aware environments, that includes knowing how to manage accounts, protect student data, recognize suspicious messages, and use approved platforms correctly. A tool can be technically secure, but if staff do not understand how to configure or use it, the human layer becomes the weak point.

In cyber security, teacher competencies matter because schools are frequent targets for phishing, credential theft, and misuse of shared devices. Competent staff reduce risk by using strong passwords, multi-factor authentication, safe file-sharing practices, and prompt reporting of unusual activity. These skills also improve defenses: training is only effective when it changes day-to-day behavior, not just policy documents. For that reason, teacher competencies are both an education quality measure and a security control.
