A swap service is a platform that exchanges one cryptocurrency for another. It may coordinate a user’s request, quote, and transaction, while also recording operational details such as timestamps, order identifiers, wallet destinations, and IP addresses. An order record does not necessarily mean a swap was completed.
These services matter for cybersecurity and privacy because their logs can connect activity that a blockchain alone may not reveal. Even when a cryptocurrency obscures transaction details on-chain, service-side records can provide correlation points for investigators or attackers. Defenses include collecting only necessary metadata, limiting retention, and restricting access to logs. Users should also understand that a privacy-focused coin does not automatically make activity at a third-party service private.
