A suction gripper is a mechanical end effector that uses negative pressure, usually a vacuum cup or pad, to hold, lift, or move an object. It is common in robots, pick-and-place machines, and industrial automation because it can handle flat, smooth, or delicate items quickly without a complex mechanical claw.
In cyber security, suction grippers matter because they are part of cyber-physical systems: software commands a physical actuator, and any bad command, spoofed sensor reading, or control-system fault can cause misplacement, damage, or unsafe handling. An attacker who reaches the robot controller may redirect a gripper, drop components, or interfere with assembly lines. Defenders use suction grippers in secure automation, remote handling, and inspection systems, where reliable vacuum sensing and clear status feedback help operators trust what the machine is actually doing.
