Smart hospital

a healthcare setting that uses connected digital systems to coordinate care and operations.

A smart hospital is a healthcare environment where connected digital systems help coordinate care, staff workflows, and operations. These systems can include electronic health records, bedside monitors, infusion pumps, imaging platforms, telemedicine tools, building controls, and automated scheduling or triage software. The goal is to make care faster, more efficient, and more integrated.

In cyber security, smart hospitals matter because connectivity expands the attack surface. If one system is compromised, attackers may try to move through the network to reach patient data, clinical devices, or operational systems. Real-world threats include ransomware that disrupts admissions or records, credential theft that exposes sensitive health information, and insecure medical IoT devices that are hard to patch. Defenses focus on network segmentation, strong access control, asset inventory, logging, backup recovery, and careful vendor management so technology supports care without putting patients or operations at risk.
