ScoutSuite is an open-source cloud auditing tool that inspects a cloud account or tenant and reports configuration and exposure issues in a point-in-time snapshot. It is commonly used with AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud to review services, permissions, network settings, logging, and other security-relevant controls.
In cyber security, ScoutSuite matters because many cloud compromises start with misconfiguration rather than malware: overly permissive IAM roles, public storage, exposed management interfaces, or missing logging can create easy paths for attackers. ScoutSuite helps defenders find those weaknesses before they are abused, and it is useful in assessments, security reviews, and rapid audits. It is not a continuous monitoring platform, so it does not watch every change in real time. Instead, teams use it to validate posture, prioritize remediation, and complement native cloud controls and ongoing monitoring tools.
