Resource estimation calculates the resources a quantum workload may need, such as qubits, execution time, and fault-tolerance overhead. Results depend on assumptions about the hardware architecture, error rates, error-correction method, and compilation or scheduling choices.
In quantum computing, estimates help developers compare approaches and assess whether a workload might fit a planned system. They also inform execution planning by exposing tradeoffs between resources. An estimate is not proof that a workload has run successfully: defenders and developers should check its assumptions, tool version, and scope before relying on it.
