Recovery is the process of restoring systems, services, and records after a security incident, outage, or destructive event. It can involve rebuilding servers, restoring backups, re-enabling applications, validating data integrity, and bringing users back onto a trusted service path.
In cyber security, recovery matters because an incident is not over when an attacker is blocked or a system is taken offline. The real test is how quickly and safely the organization can return to normal without reintroducing malware, losing records, or corrupting business processes. Strong recovery plans include tested backups, documented restore steps, fallback procedures, and clear roles for operators and responders. In attacks on trust systems such as property registries, recovery is especially important because even short interruptions can delay transactions, disrupt dependent organizations, and reduce confidence in the records themselves.
