A PMS, or Property Management System, is the core software hotels use to run reservations, guest check-in and check-out, billing, housekeeping, room inventory, and related workflows. In many properties it connects to point-of-sale systems, payment tools, booking channels, and identity services, so it becomes the operational hub for day-to-day work.
From a cybersecurity perspective, a PMS is valuable because compromise can disrupt many hotel functions at once. Attackers may target weak passwords, exposed admin portals, insecure APIs, or third-party integrations to steal data, change bookings, or lock staff out of critical systems. Defenders reduce risk with strong authentication, least-privilege access, logging, vendor review, network segmentation, and tested backups and recovery procedures.
