Mouse support

Pointer control used for navigating graphical interfaces remotely.

Mouse support is the ability of a remote console or management tool to transmit pointer movement, clicks, and drag actions to a distant system. In a KVM-style setup, it lets an operator interact with graphical interfaces as if they were physically at the machine, which is useful for BIOS screens, installers, and desktop recovery tasks.

In cyber security, mouse support matters because it affects both control and trust. It can speed legitimate administration, but it also expands the remote input surface that must be protected with strong authentication, access control, and session logging. Attackers who gain remote-console access may use mouse input to navigate GUIs, approve prompts, change settings, or complete actions that are harder to automate from a command line. Defenders may disable mouse support in narrow workflows to reduce complexity, or rely on it during incident response when visual tools are needed to inspect and recover systems.
