Marca da bollo

The Italian stamp-duty mark, which can be applied physically or handled through electronic procedures.

Marca da bollo is the Italian stamp-duty mark used to show that a document or invoice satisfies a specific tax obligation. Traditionally it was a physical stamp, but in modern workflows it can also be handled electronically through document systems and government portals.

In cyber security, it matters because the mark is no longer just a piece of paper: it is part of the integrity of invoice data, metadata, and reconciliation records. If an attacker or careless operator alters document classification, amount thresholds, or transmission status, a batch of invoices may be misreported and create compliance gaps. Defenders therefore protect ERP integrations, XML uploads, portal access, audit logs, and role-based approvals. Strong identity controls and logging help ensure that stamp-duty records cannot be tampered with or silently duplicated across automated invoice pipelines.
