KubeVirt is an open-source Kubernetes extension that allows virtual machines to be defined and managed alongside containerized workloads. It adds virtual-machine resources to Kubernetes, so teams can use the Kubernetes control plane and familiar tools to schedule and operate both types of workload.
In cybersecurity, this can simplify consistent application of operational controls, such as access policies, logging, and workload monitoring across a mixed environment. It does not make virtual machines secure by itself: administrators still need to patch guest operating systems, restrict privileges, and protect the Kubernetes cluster and its interfaces. In virtualization migrations, KubeVirt can provide a Kubernetes-based way to run existing VM workloads, but moving platforms may also require changes to storage, networking, backup, and staff practices.
