Hide My Email

a feature that creates masked addresses that forward mail to a real inbox.

Hide My Email is an email masking feature that generates a unique alias and forwards messages to a real inbox. The masked address can be used for sign-ups, newsletters, or app registrations without exposing the user’s primary email address. This reduces spam, limits cross-site tracking, and helps protect a person’s real contact information if a website is breached.

In cyber security, masked addresses matter because email is often used as an identity signal, but it is a weak one. Attackers can use disposable or masked emails to create many accounts, evade duplicate checks, and support phishing or fraud workflows. Defenders therefore treat this as one signal among many and combine it with rate limiting, device reputation, behavioral analysis, and step-up verification. Hide My Email is not inherently suspicious; it is a privacy tool. The security challenge is distinguishing normal privacy use from abusive automation without blocking legitimate users.
