A frontier model is a highly capable AI system at the leading edge of performance, usually among the largest and most advanced models available. Because they are powerful, they also concentrate risk: small prompt changes, unsafe tool access, or weak oversight can turn them into force multipliers for abuse.
In cybersecurity, frontier models can help defenders triage alerts, summarize logs, write detection logic, and test controls at scale. The same capabilities can support attackers by improving phishing content, automating reconnaissance, suggesting exploit paths, or adapting malicious code. That is why frontier-model security focuses on access control, monitoring, red-teaming, rate limits, and clear use policies. When these controls fail, the model becomes part of the attack surface rather than just a tool.
