Enterprise

a business environment where technology must fit formal processes, support, and governance.

In cyber security, enterprise means a business environment where technology must work inside formal processes, support structures, and governance rules. Enterprise systems are usually managed centrally, with controls for identity, device security, logging, patching, data handling, and compliance. A tool that works in consumer use may still fail in an enterprise if it cannot be administered, monitored, and integrated safely.

This matters because enterprise devices are high-value targets and high-value assets. Attackers often aim at enterprise endpoints to reach sensitive data, internal apps, or trusted accounts. Defenders respond with measures such as least privilege, network segmentation, mobile device management, secure authentication, and policy enforcement. In the smart-glasses example, “moving into the enterprise” means the device is no longer just a gadget; it becomes a managed endpoint that must fit security controls, workflow needs, and operational support.
