Digital identity methods are the authentication schemes used to prove who is allowed to enter a government or enterprise portal. In Italy, examples include SPID, CNS, Fisconline, and Entratel, which can be used to access tax and e-invoicing services such as invoice review, payment workflows, and document records.
In cyber security, these methods matter because they protect systems that hold sensitive financial and compliance data. If an attacker steals credentials, session cookies, or smart-card access, they may be able to view invoices, alter tax data, or submit fraudulent changes. Common defenses include multi-factor authentication, hardware-backed credentials, role separation, strong password hygiene, and detailed access logging. Administrators should also revoke unused accounts and monitor for unusual portal activity, especially where automated accounting tools connect to official services.
