cPanel

A web hosting control interface used for account-level administration.

cPanel is a web hosting control interface used for account-level administration. In shared hosting environments, it lets administrators and customers manage domains, email accounts, databases, files, backups, and other site settings through a web dashboard instead of manual server commands.

In cyber security, cPanel matters because it sits in the management plane above the hosted websites themselves. If an attacker reaches cPanel, they may be able to change configuration, create users, upload malicious files, redirect traffic, or reset credentials for hosted services. Defenders treat it as a high-value target and protect it with strong authentication, limited network exposure, timely patching, and log monitoring. Vulnerabilities such as authentication bypasses are especially dangerous because they can turn a simple web login into control over multiple customer environments.
