Because it absorbs moisture and flexes under load, it is far less rigid and durable than metal or plastic enclosures.
In cyber security, corrugated fiberboard matters whenever hardware is shipped, stored, or prototyped. Defenders use it for disposable mockups, test fixtures, and packaging that protects devices in transit. Security teams also inspect it as part of chain-of-custody work, since damaged or resealed boxes can indicate tampering. Attackers may exploit the material’s easy availability to build temporary covers, conceal small components, or create low-cost prototypes for physical testing. Its weakness is also a clue: crushed corners, soft walls, and moisture damage can reveal handling issues and reduce trust in the contents.
