Container-to-host copy workflow

A process that moves data from isolated container space onto the host machine.

A container-to-host copy workflow is any process that transfers files from an isolated container environment onto the host machine. In practice, this includes admin tools and automation that extract logs, configs, backups, or build artifacts from containers into the host filesystem.

It matters because the copy crosses a trust boundary. If path handling is flawed, attacker-controlled container content can be written to an unexpected host location, overwriting scripts, configs, or other sensitive files. Defenders reduce risk by treating copy destinations as sensitive input, limiting who can invoke copy operations, keeping container tooling patched, and avoiding transfers from untrusted containers. Careful path validation, least privilege, and monitoring for unexpected host-file changes are key controls.
