CN C, usually written CNC for computer numerical control, is a manufacturing method where a machine follows digital instructions to cut, drill, or shape material with high repeatability. Instead of hand-cutting each part, an operator loads a design file and the machine reproduces it precisely across one or many pieces.
In cyber security, CNC matters because physical precision affects both attacks and defenses. Defenders use it to build accurate enclosures, mounts, test fixtures, and security hardware prototypes that fit connectors and components exactly. Attackers can also use CNC-made parts to create custom device housings, stealthy electronics, or tamper-resistant-looking shells that help hide unauthorized hardware. The security lesson is simple: repeatable cuts do not guarantee a correct design. A CNC machine can faithfully produce a flawed template, so measurement, verification, and fit testing remain essential when hardware security depends on physical alignment and structural integrity.
