Body perception is the way a person sees and interprets their own physical appearance. It is shaped by feedback, comparison, attention, and repeated exposure to images or comments. In security contexts, this matters because attackers often target emotions and self-image rather than only devices or accounts.
Social engineering campaigns can exploit body perception through fake profiles, romance scams, sextortion, or manipulated photos and messages that pressure a target into trusting, paying, or sharing data. Platforms can also create harmful feedback loops when likes, ranking, visibility, and silence become signals users overread. Defenses include abuse detection, rate limits, privacy controls, reporting tools, and interface choices that reduce manipulative comparison and feedback.
