Autonomia cognitiva

The learner’s ability to think, judge, and solve problems without outsourcing core reasoning.

Autonomia cognitiva is the ability to think, judge, and solve problems without outsourcing core reasoning to a tool, a script, or an assistant. In cybersecurity, it means a person can verify facts, spot contradictions, and make decisions instead of blindly accepting an output because it looks polished or automated.

This matters because many attacks target human judgment, not just software. Phishing emails, fake login pages, deepfake voices, and AI-generated messages try to push users into fast, uncritical action. A strong sense of autonomy cognitive helps defenders pause, check sources, validate identity, and confirm requests through separate channels. It also reduces overreliance on AI systems, which can be manipulated by prompt injection, misleading inputs, or partial context. Good security practice keeps humans in the loop: the tool can assist, but the person must understand the task, question the result, and remain accountable for the final decision.
