Auto-remediation is a security feature in some CSPM tools that automatically corrects risky cloud settings when a policy is violated. Instead of only alerting on a misconfiguration, the tool can take a predefined action, such as removing public access, tightening a security group rule, or reverting an unsafe permission change.
It matters because cloud misconfigurations can expose data or services very quickly, and human response may be too slow for large, multi-cloud environments. Auto-remediation helps reduce attack surface and limit the window in which an attacker can exploit a bad setting. In practice, it is usually governed by policy controls, approval workflows, and exception handling so the tool does not break valid workloads. Good defenders use it for low-risk, repeatable fixes, while reserving manual review for changes that affect production availability or identity permissions.
