Auto-linked pass

a digital pass that is connected automatically to a related account or trip record.

An auto-linked pass is a digital travel or ticket pass that is attached automatically to a related account, loyalty profile, or trip record. Instead of entering a code or manually adding the pass, the system matches identifiers such as an email address, booking number, or frequent-flyer account and then surfaces the pass in a wallet or app.

This convenience matters in cyber security because the pass inherits the security of the account behind it. If an attacker takes over the account through phishing, credential stuffing, SIM swapping, or weak recovery controls, they may gain access to the linked pass and the trip data it exposes. Defenders reduce this risk with strong authentication, careful consent checks, clear unlinking controls, audit logging, and limits on what linked data can reveal. In practice, auto-linking is useful, but it should be treated as a trust boundary, not just a convenience feature.
