An asset intelligence platform collects information about devices and systems, then correlates and enriches it to create a more useful inventory. It can combine data from sources such as network observations, endpoint tools, cloud services, and configuration systems to show what assets exist, where they are, and how they relate to one another.
Security teams use this context to identify unmanaged or vulnerable assets, assign ownership, prioritize remediation, and support incident response. In IoT and operational technology (OT) environments, discovery may rely on passive traffic monitoring because active probing can disrupt sensitive equipment. However, an inventory is only as complete and accurate as its data sources and network visibility. Finding a device does not prove it is secure or fully understood; teams should validate important findings and use the platform as one input to risk decisions.
