AI service layer

AI embedded inside products or workflows so users experience it as part of a service rather than a standalone tool.

An AI service layer is AI embedded inside a product or workflow so users experience it as part of the service, not as a separate tool. Instead of opening a chatbot, a customer might get AI-written replies in support software, automated summaries in a ticketing system, or recommendations inside an app. The value is convenience and scale, but the AI also becomes part of the operational stack.

In cyber security, that matters because the attack surface shifts from a single model to every place it touches data, users, and decisions. Real risks include prompt injection through user content, sensitive-data leakage in prompts or outputs, weak authorization around model access, and unsafe automation when AI actions are executed without review. Defenders treat the AI layer like any other critical service: they isolate data, validate inputs and outputs, log model activity, rate-limit access, and keep human oversight for high-impact actions. The main security question is not whether the model works, but whether its integration is controlled.
