An AI policy is a set of rules that defines how artificial intelligence tools may be used inside a class, school, or institution. It can specify approved tools, forbidden uses, required disclosure, data-handling limits, and who is accountable when AI is involved in a task or decision.
In cyber security, AI policy matters because generative tools can expose sensitive data, create unverified output, or be abused for phishing, malware assistance, and social engineering. Good policy reduces shadow AI use, limits what can be copied into public models, and sets review steps for AI-generated content. Defenders also use policy to govern AI-assisted monitoring, incident response, and grading so that automation supports human judgment instead of replacing it.
