AI Mode

Google Search’s experimental search experience for alternate query handling and responses.

AI Mode is Google Search’s experimental search experience that can handle a query differently from the standard results page, often by generating a synthesized answer or changing how results are presented. It is part of Google’s product experimentation and may be enabled only for certain users, builds, or tests.

In cyber security, AI Mode matters because search is a common entry point for phishing, malware delivery, and trust decisions. If the search experience changes, users may see different links, summaries, or prompts, which can affect how they judge legitimacy. Defenders should treat AI-enabled search features as policy-sensitive surfaces: verify default search behavior, monitor feature flags and browser settings, and test how outputs are rendered in managed environments. Attackers may also try to exploit user trust in AI-generated answers by poisoning content or steering queries toward misleading pages.
