AI assurance

A set of methods for proving that an AI system behaves within acceptable risk limits.

AI assurance is the set of methods used to show that an AI system stays within acceptable risk limits. It combines testing, evaluation, monitoring, documentation, and human review to check whether a model behaves as expected under normal use and under stress. The goal is not to prove an AI is perfect, but to build evidence that its behavior is understood and controlled.

In cyber security, AI assurance matters because AI systems can be attacked, manipulated, or misused just like any other software. Assurance work may include red teaming, adversarial prompt testing, evaluation of safety filters, and checks on data handling and release controls. Strong assurance helps defenders spot hidden failure modes, while weak assurance can leave a false sense of safety. If the assessor cannot test deeply or report honestly, the process becomes compliance theater instead of real risk reduction.
