Advanced chip

A highly miniaturized semiconductor used in performance-sensitive computing and electronics.

An advanced chip is a highly miniaturized semiconductor built for demanding workloads such as servers, smartphones, network gear, AI systems, and embedded security devices. It usually combines dense transistors, high speed, and efficient power use, which lets it process large amounts of data in a small space.

In cyber security, advanced chips matter because they sit inside the hardware that stores keys, runs encryption, verifies firmware, and protects endpoints and cloud infrastructure. Defenders rely on them for secure boot, trusted execution, and hardware-backed isolation. Attackers also benefit from them: more compute can accelerate password cracking, cryptographic testing, and malware analysis. Supply-chain trust is another concern, because a compromised chip can undermine security before software defenses even start. As a result, secure design, firmware integrity, and hardware provenance are all critical around advanced chips.
