Voice mode

A conversational speech interface where the user and AI interact aloud, usually creating stored text records.

Voice mode is a conversational speech interface where a user speaks to an AI and the assistant responds aloud. Unlike simple dictation, it is usually a two-way session that may generate stored transcripts, chat history, and metadata such as timestamps or device identifiers. In some systems, the original audio is deleted after transcription, while the text record is kept for later review or product improvement.

In cyber security, voice mode matters because retention changes the risk profile. Spoken prompts can contain sensitive business data, credentials, personal details, or biometric voice characteristics. If transcripts are searchable or reused for model training, they can expand exposure beyond the moment of capture. Defenders should treat voice mode as a data-governance feature, not just an interface: verify retention settings, separate consent for training, restrict access to transcripts, and make deletion controls easy to use. Attackers may abuse voice channels to elicit secrets or seed harmful content, so organizations should apply the same caution they use for chat logs and other sensitive records.
