Verification organization

A third-party entity that checks whether a system’s safety or risk claims are supported by evidence.

A verification organization is a third-party body that checks whether a system’s safety or risk claims are backed by evidence. In cyber security, that evidence can include test results, control documentation, incident logs, and evaluation reports. The goal is to move beyond self-attestation and confirm that a vendor’s statements match what the system actually does.

This matters because weak or biased verification can hide real risk, especially in high-impact systems such as AI models, cloud services, or security tools. A credible verifier should be independent, technically capable, and able to inspect the right artifacts. In defense, verification organizations support audits, compliance reviews, and pre-deployment testing. In attacks, poor verification processes can be exploited when a provider claims strong protections without proving them, or when a rubber-stamp reviewer misses unsafe behavior. Strong verification makes security claims more trustworthy and harder to fake.
