Vacuum-driven dot matrix

A grid-based display that relies on suction or pressure changes to form patterns.

A vacuum-driven dot matrix is a grid-based display that forms visible patterns by changing air pressure, suction, or airflow instead of lighting individual pixels. Each dot or cell becomes visible when a mechanism moves, blocks light, or shifts material in response to pressure changes. The result can look like a screen, but the underlying technology is mechanical or pneumatic rather than electronic.

In cyber security, this matters because many industrial and embedded systems rely on physical interfaces to show status, alarms, or control feedback. If the display is unusual, operators may misread the real state of the machine, especially when feedback is indirect or delayed. Attackers do not need to compromise the display itself to cause problems; confusing telemetry, spoofed sensor data, or manipulated actuators can create the same effect. Defenders should treat such interfaces as part of the trust boundary and verify that visual output matches actual device state.
