Unstructured model

a more flexible setup that may be less standardized and harder to compare.

An unstructured model is a flexible operating or security setup with fewer fixed rules, fewer standard formats, and more room for local decisions. In practice, that can make a system easier to adapt to different teams, workflows, or data sources, but it also makes the result harder to compare, audit, and automate consistently.

In cyber security, this matters because attackers often look for uneven controls, unclear ownership, and gaps between tools or teams. A less standardized model can increase those gaps if logs, access rules, and review processes are not aligned. Defenders may still choose an unstructured approach when they need speed or customization, but they usually pair it with strong governance, clear responsibilities, and monitoring to keep visibility and reduce drift. The trade-off is simple: more flexibility often means less predictability, so security has to be designed around control as well as convenience.
