Trusted operator boundary

A security model that assumes one controlled user or operator, not an adversarial shared environment.

A trusted operator boundary is a security assumption that one known operator controls a system, tool, or automation session. It works when the environment is private and the operator is authorized, but it breaks down if the same agent, account, or interface is exposed to other users or an attacker.

This matters in cyber security because many controls depend on who is allowed to trigger actions. If the boundary is too broad, a tool-enabled AI agent or admin workflow may perform sensitive steps for the wrong person, reuse privileged sessions, or act on malicious input. In real attacks, weak boundaries can turn ordinary web flaws, stolen sessions, or prompt injection into unauthorized access. Defenders reduce the risk by isolating operators, scoping credentials, requiring approval for sensitive actions, and logging every tool use.
