Transaction verification is the process of checking that a payment request is valid, the amount is correct, and the recipient is the intended one before money is approved or sent. In modern payment systems, this may involve confirming account details, matching invoice information, reviewing a customer’s identity, and validating that the request came through an authorized channel.
It matters because payment fraud often relies on haste, confusion, or manipulated instructions. Attackers may alter an invoice, swap a payee account, or send a fake payment link that looks routine. Strong verification reduces the chance of accidental transfers and helps detect social engineering, business email compromise, and unauthorized link-based payments. Defenders use approval workflows, dual authorization, transaction limits, and out-of-band confirmation to make sure a payment is legitimate before it is completed.
