Text extraction is the process of pulling key information out of longer written material. In cyber security, that often means turning emails, logs, documents, web pages, or chat records into structured data such as names, dates, commands, indicators of compromise, or suspicious phrases. It helps analysts search faster, compare records, and automate triage.
Defenders use text extraction in tools like SIEM pipelines, malware analysis, and data loss prevention to spot credentials, phishing language, or hidden instructions. Attackers use the same idea to harvest useful details from exposed files, scrape contact lists, or mine public text for reconnaissance. When LLMs are involved, extraction can make information easier to read, but it must preserve context: leaving out a warning, condition, or sequence can change meaning and create risk.
