Telematic cash register

Fiscal register that sends sales data electronically to tax systems.

A telematic cash register is a fiscal register that sends sales data electronically to a tax authority or approved fiscal platform. Unlike a standalone cash drawer, it is part of a connected workflow that records each transaction, creates compliant receipts, and transmits fiscal data over a network. It may be a dedicated device or software running on a point-of-sale system.

In cyber security, this matters because the register becomes a trusted source of financial truth. If attackers compromise it, they may alter receipts, suppress sales, steal transaction data, or disrupt tax reporting. Defenses focus on strong authentication, encrypted transport, signed updates, tamper-evident logs, access control, and network segmentation so the fiscal function is isolated from less trusted systems. In real environments, telematic cash registers also create a compliance risk: errors or outages can affect both revenue reporting and merchant liability, so integrity and auditability are as important as availability.
