Telecom databases are data stores used to support communications services, such as customer records, routing data, billing information, device identifiers, provisioning details, and operational logs. Because they sit close to the core of service delivery, they often contain sensitive personal, commercial, and infrastructure data. Access is usually tightly controlled, but their size and business importance make them valuable targets.
In cyber security, telecom databases matter because compromise can expose subscriber data, enable fraud, or disrupt service operations. Attackers may target them through stolen credentials, exposed management interfaces, SQL injection, or abuse of trusted vendor access. Defenders protect them with segmentation, least-privilege access, encryption, strong authentication, logging, and regular integrity checks. Review and cleansing activities are also important, because inaccurate or stale records can hide misuse and make incident response harder.
