A technical file is the organized documentation package for a regulated AI system. It typically records the system’s design, intended use, data and model choices, testing results, risk assessments, mitigation measures, deployment constraints, and supporting evidence such as logs or approval records. In practice, it is the evidence trail that shows how a system was built and why it was considered safe enough to place on the market or put into service.
In cyber security, the technical file matters because good documentation is part of control. It helps defenders prove traceability, integrity, and accountability, while also making it easier to investigate incidents, spot unauthorized changes, and demonstrate compliance during audits. Attackers benefit when records are missing, altered, or scattered, because weak documentation can hide unsafe updates, unclear ownership, or gaps in testing. A strong technical file does not prevent attacks by itself, but it supports both governance and forensic analysis when a system is challenged.
