Sync timing

The timing pattern that tells a display when to start lines and frames.

Sync timing is the timing pattern that tells a display or other digital device when to start each line, frame, or transfer. In video systems, these pulses and gaps keep the receiver aligned with the sender so pixels appear in the right place at the right time. If the timing is off, the image can roll, shift, or fail to display at all.

In cybersecurity, sync timing matters because many embedded systems depend on precise timing, not just valid data. Attackers may exploit timing mismatches to desynchronize hardware, cause faults, or force devices into unexpected states. Defenders use strict timing checks, protocol validation, and well-controlled bridges or converters to keep old equipment working safely and to spot tampering. In short, timing is part of the trusted signal, not just a background detail.
