Surveillance integration

the linking of monitoring tools with other security or building systems.

Surveillance integration is the linking of video monitoring, access control, alarms, and related building systems so they can be managed through shared software, identity controls, or network connections. It is common in smart buildings, campuses, and industrial sites where security teams want a unified view of cameras, doors, sensors, and alerts.

In cyber security, this matters because integration increases both capability and risk. If one connected system is compromised, an attacker may gain visibility into camera feeds, disable alarms, unlock doors, or pivot into other operational technology. Defenders must treat these connections as high-value trust boundaries: segment networks, restrict administrative access, monitor logs, and apply strong authentication and patching. Well-designed surveillance integration improves situational awareness, but weak integration can turn physical security into an entry point for cyber intrusion.
