Support session

A live remote connection between a technician and a user for troubleshooting or assistance.

A support session is a live remote connection between a technician and a user for troubleshooting, setup, or assistance. In remote-support platforms, it usually involves an interactive screen-sharing or control channel, often with permissions for keyboard, mouse, and sometimes file transfer. Because the session is meant to be trusted and temporary, it can bypass some of the friction that protects normal network access.

That trust makes support sessions important in cyber security. Attackers may try to abuse them through social engineering, stolen credentials, or misconfigured permissions to gain an interactive foothold, move files, or run commands on a target system. Defenders reduce risk by enforcing least privilege, requiring authentication and approval, limiting file-transfer rights, recording sessions, and alerting on unusual support activity. A well-managed support session is useful administration; an over-permissive one can become a direct path into sensitive endpoints.
