A submission workflow is the process used to package, validate, and send billing or administrative records into another system. In practice, it may move claims, forms, or reports from an internal application to a payer, agency, or partner platform.
These workflows matter in cyber security because they sit at an operational choke point: if they are disrupted, delayed, or altered, the business may lose visibility, fail compliance deadlines, or send incomplete data. Attackers may target them to cause downtime, corrupt records, or pressure an organization during extortion. Defenders monitor authentication logs, transfer errors, queue backlogs, and unusual changes to templates or destination endpoints. Integrity checks and retry monitoring help confirm that submissions were accepted as intended and not silently modified.
