SOC workflows

The steps analysts follow to triage alerts, investigate activity, and respond to incidents.

SOC workflows are the repeatable steps security operations center analysts use to triage alerts, investigate suspicious activity, and respond to incidents. They define how an alert is enriched with context, prioritized, assigned, escalated, documented, and ultimately closed.

Clear workflows help teams handle threats consistently and quickly, reducing missed alerts and unnecessary investigation. In practice, threat-intelligence platforms and other security tools are most useful when their findings fit into analysts’ existing queues and procedures—for example, by adding context to an alert or helping decide whether to block an indicator. Workflows should also specify who takes each action and how outcomes are recorded, so response decisions can be reviewed and improved.
