Site Reliability Engineering is an operations discipline that applies software engineering methods to keep production services dependable. SRE teams define reliability targets, track service-level indicators, and use monitoring, incident response, and automation to reduce downtime and recover quickly from failures. The goal is not perfect uptime, but predictable service behavior under real load.
In cyber security, SRE matters because unstable systems are easier to disrupt and harder to defend. Strong SRE practices improve logging, alerting, patching, backup testing, access control, and change management, all of which help detect abuse and limit damage. In fast-built or AI-generated applications, SRE is often what turns a prototype into a supportable service. Without it, organizations inherit operational debt: orphaned software, weak observability, and security blind spots that attackers can exploit.
