Shuttlecock

The lightweight object struck in badminton.

A shuttlecock is the lightweight projectile used in badminton. It has a rounded cork or synthetic base and a feathered or plastic skirt, which makes it slow down quickly and fly with a stable, nose-first orientation. In a badminton robot, the shuttlecock is the object the machine must detect, store, feed, and launch consistently.

In cyber-physical systems, that consistency matters. If sensors misread the shuttlecock, or if motors and feeders deliver it unevenly, the whole automated process becomes unreliable. The term is not a security primitive, but it appears in robotics and training devices as the controlled target of automation. Defenders care about accurate sensing, predictable actuation, and jam-resistant design, while attackers could exploit poor calibration or physical tampering to disrupt the machine’s behavior.
